Road Signs
County Road Signs
This is a sample of a County street sign. They display the road name, block number and a north or east directional if it's posted in the northern or eastern areas of Lubbock County.
The County street sign project began in August 1994 when LECD received a grant from the State 9-1-1 Commission for use in rural addressing projects. After receiving approval from the Board of Managers, a sign format and a vendor were chosen.
LECD and Lubbock County entered into an Inter-local agreement whereby Lubbock County will supply the labor necessary to post the signs and LECD will provide the materials.
Installation of signs for Private Roads is pending. The signs will be the reverse color scheme of the County Street signs. The sign will be white with blue characters and the "CR" (County Road) designation will instead be "PR" for Private Road.
Theft of Signs
Sheriff's Deputies have reported numerous signs that have been stolen or vandalized. If you are witness to any tampering or theft of County Street Signs, please contact the Sheriff's Department at 775-1400 to report the incident.
According to emergency responders, these signs are a major factor in the time it takes to locate rural residents in an emergency. Extra time spent searching for someone in need could mean the difference between life and death.
A few minutes of your time to report this crime could save your life or the life of a loved one.
